Have you ever visited the Highgate Cemetery or heard of the Highgate vampire in London?

The Highgate Cemetery in London is supposed to be one of the eeriest places to walk around. There is an eerie story about this cemetery that I want to share with you all.

The Highgate Cemetery in London

The Highgate cemetery has been known for being the creepiest cemetery in London. Between the 1960s and the 1970s, there were rumors that a tall, dark figure with red eyes was seen wandering around the cemetery. Apparently, the figure terrorized some people at this place. It was being said that the figure could be a vampire. Can you believe this? Do vampires really exist?

In a news article in My London in March 2019 it stated:
"One of the sightings was recounted in a letter written by young Wicca (Pagan witchcraft) enthusiast David Farrant and published in the Hamstead and Highgate Express. Farrant claimed he had seen a tall, grey figure floating in the cemetery on Christmas Eve in 1969, and that he had since found foxes in the ground with their throats slit."

The highgate vampire

There was some publicity to suggest that there was a Highgate vampire lurking the area. In 1969, one of the members of a group of people interested in the occult spent the night at Highgate Cemetery. He wrote that he saw a grey figure, which he thought to be supernatural and asked if anyone else had seen anything. Others said they had seen ghosts that were haunting the area. Most people said they saw a tall man in a hat, a woman in white and a face glaring through bars on a gate.

A vampire hunter

I have read that a man named Bishop Sean Manchester, who was an exorcist and vampire hunter, wrote a book called The Highgate Vampire. In this book, Manchester gives details of witnesses who have seen a weird-looking figure with demonic eyes.

Manchester’s adventure began in the late 1960s when he first warned of the danger of the cults of Satanism, many of which were said to have performed their rituals in Highgate Cemetery, and now, some 40 years later, he remains a prolific, yet controversial, figure. His life’s work has pressed the boundaries of faith and, not surprisingly, one of his favorite quotes reflects this conviction: John 20:29, “Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.”
In the My London news article, it said:
"Shortly after Farrant’s letter was published, a second man, Sean Manchester, was interviewed by the same newspaper for an article titled ‘Does a Vampyr Walk in Highgate?’"
Sean Manchester, also, states that there were mysterious illnesses of two Highgate girls who were sleepwalking and had puncture-wound injuries. He writes about dead foxes and dead human corpses that were found in the cemetery. There was, also, one decapitated corpse that was found at the cemetery. This book really does sound interesting to me and very scary especially if you enjoy reading this sort of thing.

In the My London news article it states:
"Mr. Manchester claimed that the figure was, in fact, a ‘King Vampire’, a medieval black magician who had practiced magic in Wallachia, the home of Dracula, before being buried in the cemetery."
"His body, Mr. Manchester claimed, had been resurrected by a modern satanist and his demonic form now stalked the graveyard at night."
I would advise not to go looking for vampires. Sean Manchester gives this advice in his interview:
"What advice do you have to anyone setting out to hunt and destroy the undead today?"
"Leave it to those who are proficient in the ministry of exorcism and contact a traditional priest. If you have a calling to become an exorcist, you first need to be trained and become seasoned before embarking on anything as dangerous as the Highgate case."
To be honest, I would be too frightened to even think of going to look for anything in the Highgate cemetery at any time of the day or night. I guess it’s the thought of what might be seen there and I’d be too scared to find out anyway!

Of course, if you just want to go there and walk around the many graves to see what all the fuss is about you are welcome to at any time.

So, what do you make of this story? Do you believe it?

It’s definitely very creepy. No wonder there are so many tv-shows based on vampires and zombies these days like The Vampire Diaries and The Walking Dead and the new tv series on Netflix called V Wars starring Ian Somerhalder who also starred in The Vampire Diaries.

If you enjoy this sort of thing you should definitely watch these shows as I recommend them.
