A Day Trip to Calais in France

I took a day trip to Calais in France. Here's what I got up to and how the day went.

I took a trip to Calais in France for the day by traveling by car on the ferry from Dover in the UK. If you live in England as I do, then it's very easy to do this. There were five of us and it only cost us £25 per car, which is £5 per person to travel to Calais.

Calais

It took us two hours to get to Calais. The ferry was very nice with a great restaurant and bar. There are some shops and a duty-free shop if wanting to buy anything. The journey there and back to Calais is an enjoyable one, so take a camera if you like taking pictures.

As I went in December to Calais, there were a few things that could we do like visiting a Christmas market and walking around the Calais town center.

If you want to have lunch or dinner then there are many restaurants and cafes that serve excellent food. French cuisine restaurants are more likely to be expensive though, so look out for smaller cafes if you cannot afford an expensive meal out. There are also many cafes that just serve alcohol or hot beverages, such as, coffee or tea. If you do not want to walk back to your car, then why not use the local small buses, which are free. You will experience a bit of French life!

Shopping

If you want to do some shopping then you can shop at the Cite Europe shopping mall.  There are lots of shops including some English ones. In total, there are 147 retail outlets, 20 restaurants, and a cinema complex. There is a hypermarket called Carrefour, which is ideal for general shopping like alcohol bargains, such as, French wines. There is, also, a bowling alley at Cite Europe shopping mall that is open every day of the year from 11 am to 1 am.

So, overall, visiting Calais can be an enjoyable day out!
