A Short Trip to Amsterdam
I have been on a short break to Amsterdam
, Netherlands. It was a lovely three days where we wandered around the city seeing some interesting places and sights.

I must say, it is easy to get around Amsterdam
. Using the tram system that they have in Amsterdam
is a brilliant form of transport that will help you to see many places around the city. You can buy a 24-hour ticket for 7 euros per person or a 48-hour ticket for 14 euros. We bought the 48-hour ticket because we were there for 3 days and it was easy to hop on and hop off at different spots around the city as much as we liked. Amsterdam's trams are the most unique form of transport service that I have ever seen. I wish they had this kind of transport in London.
If you decide to visit this great city, then make sure you get a ticket. Single fare is 2.90 euros per person, but I would recommend getting at least the 24-hour ticket because you will save plenty of money if you are going to be hopping on and off them all day and night.
Here are the places we visited and some of the sights we saw along with a cruise:
Van Gogh Museum
I enjoyed seeing all of Vincent Van Gogh
's paintings
. There is an interesting story to learn about his life and his family at the museum. It costs 15 euro per person and it's one of the top attractions to see in Amsterdam.
Anne Frank's House
Anne Frank's House
is definitely a must-see. I enjoyed seeing the house where Anne and her family hid from the Germans during the second world war. This is a top attraction in Amsterdam and a must see if you are considering visiting the city. Although, I must advise anyone who wants to see the house to buy tickets online before arriving in Amsterdam because there are always long queues to get into the Anne Frank House
. We queued for an hour and 15 minutes on our last day, but it only took this amount of time because we were there before it opened at 9 am. We arrived at 8.30 am to still find a long queue. Queues can be 2 to 3 hours long sometimes. You can book tickets on the Anne Frank House's website in advance. Tickets cost from 9 euro per person.
Amsterdam Evening Canal Cruise
We enjoyed a pizza canal cruise, which consists of an hour and a half tour of the canal area with pizza and wine or beer included in the price. The evening cruise was immensely enjoyable. Tickets for the Pizza Canal Cruise cost 34 euro per person including a large pizza and two drinks per person (wine or beer).
Dam Square
Dam Square is an interesting place to see. There are lots of shops, cafes, and restaurants nearby. The square is always busy with people. The atmosphere in Dam Square is delightful too. You can sometimes hear the bells ring in the morning, which made me think of Anne Frank
and her family stuck in that house all those years ago when they hid from the Germans
. All they could hear were the bells. The ringing of the bells helped Anne to cope. They calmed her in a way and I think they calmed me too whilst I was there.
Vondelpark
Vondelpark is one of Amsterdam's famous parks where lots of people go to take their morning runs or ride their bicycles. Amsterdam is a great place for bicycle riding. In fact, bicycles are a big part of life in Amsterdam. Most people own them and ride them to get around.
Other interesting places to see are:
Rembrandtplein Square
Rembrandtplein is a place full of nightlife and shops. It's a great place to visit if you have enough time to explore Amsterdam
.
Red Light District
Another interesting place to walk past is the Red Light District, but if you think you will be offended (for women), then don't bother visiting the area.
Rijksmuseum
If you love art, then you will enjoy this museum.
Madam Tussauds
Madame Tussauds is an interesting place to visit in Amsterdam.
